The 2018 Single Use Plastics Reduction Ordinance in San Diego

San Diego Council Members, in collaboration with a coalition of environmental groups, are gearing up for a history vote to reduce styrofoam and single-use plastics consumption in San Diego.

This is a guide for exercising your right to making your voice heard.

2. Know the proposal

The proposal, called the Single Use Plastics Reduction Ordinance, is composed of two simple rules:

 

A ban on Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)

Not to be sold or distributed: Food service ware, ice chests (or similar containers), beach or pool toys; dock floats, mooring buoys, anchors, and navigation marker; meat and fish trays, and egg cartons

Polypropylene must be requested

Not to be offered or distributed Straws, take-out containers, and utensils, including, but not limited to forks, knives, and spoons

3. Join the fight

For Individuals
