Gareth Bale(Tottenham) - February 26th

Gareth Bale

It's not just the goals that he's pouring in but the way he affects the game. It's the way Tottenham's opponents defend around their area, mindful not to give away those deadly free kicks that intrigues us. Gareth Bale has taken a massive step up with his game since the holidays and after his display against Lyon, the whole of Europe took notice.

With a pair of goals and an assist on Monday in the local derby against West Ham, Bale takes home the weekly honours as his season tally reaches 15 goals. Not bad for a guy who previous managers only saw as a useful left back.

Fashion Week - Ligue 1 Style
Ok, I admit it, I thought Beckham the player was out of gas at the end of his MLS season and believed he would just drift into retirement without much fanfare.

Then came the news that some big clubs were actually pursuing his signature. Were they after his playing skills or just selling some shirts? Smart business for a six month stint indeed but it appears his signing with PSG, or more exactly with Qatar Investment Authority is something of an octopus situation with far reaching implications. Yes, he will sell PSG shirts, yes, he might even contribute on the pitch, but there are bigger goals in this than Posh Spice and her new couture line making a splash in Paris.

The Qatari group are thinking long term and they are eyeing a piece of the American pie. With Becks in tight with AEG, I would venture to say it won't be long before we see Qatari interests take over an MLS team.

Too many questions not enough answers, but for now let's just enjoy Beckham on the pitch in his final season and his drive for that L1 title that has escaped PSG since 93-94.
